David De Vita, President of Carolina Safety Consultants, Joins Teaching Staff in Clemson University's Department of Construction Science & Management.

Greenville, South Carolina - David J. De Vita, founder and president of Carolina Safety Consultants, LLC, a full-service environmental, health and safety consulting firm serving small-to-mid-sized companies, has completed his first year of teaching in Clemson University's Department of Construction Science and Management (CSM). De Vita is among several part-time instructors added for the 2006-2007 school year. Additional teaching staff was needed in sharply focused areas to support a growing CSM student population driven by the construction industry's ever-increasing need for new recruits.

De Vita's hands-on Construction Safety Program curriculum is unique in that it allows students to earn their 30-hour OSHA course card as part of the class. This gives Clemson CSM students a competitive edge since most construction professionals do not have the opportunity to obtain this certification from the Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) until they are in the workplace. OSHA's 30-hour coursework covers construction site safety with specific attention to scaffolding, fall protection, ladders and stairways; electrical; confined space; trenching and excavation; personal protective equipment (PPE); and work zone safety. De Vita plans to teach the course again in the Fall Session.

Kunst, a 2004 graduate of Bob Jones Academy, is a member of Clemson's Construction Guild. Baynard is the current president of Clemson University's Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), the largest college FCA group in the nation. He is a 2003 graduate of Greenville's Wade Hampton High School.

De Vita's professional credentials include a B.S. degree in Health & Safety Management from Clemson University (1990), and a well-rounded career in workplace/jobsite safety consulting and implementation that spans more than 15 years. Prior to establishing Carolina Safety Consultants in 2004, De Vita held strategic roles with some of the Southeast's leading general and specialty contractors, and also has worked extensively with organizations in the healthcare, manufacturing and insurance industries. De Vita and his staff are actively involved in the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce.

As president of Carolina Safety Consultants, De Vita provides leading-edge training and consulting to organizations that seek to protect their workforces and environments by complying with all regulatory standards. His personal knowledge and experience provides insight into applicable regulatory standards and interpretations, and assists management in providing a safe workplace, helping companies gain an even more competitive position in their respective industries.
